Akkeshi Distillery, founded in 2016 by Kenten Jitsugyo Co., Ltd., is situated in the coastal town of Akkeshi, Hokkaido, Japan. Drawing inspiration from Scotland’s Islay region, the distillery benefits from a cool, humid climate with sea fog and abundant local peat, contributing to the distinctive character of its whiskies. Akkeshi emphasizes local ingredients, including Hokkaido barley and Mizunara oak casks, to craft spirits that embody the essence of their environment. Their commitment to quality has earned them international acclaim: the “Shosho” expression was named World’s Best Blended Whisky at the World Whiskies Awards 2022, and the “Repunkamuy” blend secured a category win in 2024. Akkeshi’s dedication to terroir-driven whisky continues to captivate enthusiasts worldwide.
